About Dr. Buthainah Al Shunnar
Dr. Buthainah Al Shunnar is the founder and director of Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery on Jumeirah Beach Road. She is described as the first female Emirati plastic surgeon and is double board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. She trained in general and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, then practised in Pennsylvania before opening her Dubai clinic in 2005. Body contouring is one of her main focus areas, and liposuction is offered for the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, arms, back, buttocks, face and neck. Each liposuction plan is tailored after a detailed consultation and examination.
Techniques Used
The clinic chooses the technique based on the treatment area, the amount of fat and skin quality:
- VASER liposuction: ultrasound energy liquefies the fat before it is removed and helps tighten the skin
- Laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo): laser energy melts the fat, then tightens the skin from underneath
- Tumescent liposuction: the most common method, using a lidocaine and adrenaline solution to reduce bleeding and discomfort
- Usually 3 to 4 areas per session, taking 2 to 4 hours under anaesthesia
