About Dr. Kamal Sawan
Dr. Kamal Sawan is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery on Jumeirah Beach Road, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, then trained in general and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. In 2003 he moved to Oklahoma, where he became Chief of Plastic Surgery in 2005 and held the role for ten years. He also directed a university plastic surgery residency programme, training generations of surgeons, and in 2015 he founded Sawan Surgical Aesthetics. He has more than 20 years of experience in aesthetic, reconstructive and general surgery. Body contouring is one of his main interests, especially after major weight loss, and liposuction is central to that work, both on its own and combined with a tummy tuck or body lift. He stresses realistic expectations and good aftercare, and says most patients are back to their normal routine within 48 hours, apart from heavy lifting and cardio.
Techniques Used
At Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sawan chooses the liposuction technique to suit each area and each patient:
- Tumescent liposuction: a numbing solution is injected first, then a thin cannula loosens the fat cells and removes them through small, carefully placed incisions
- VASER liposuction: ultrasound energy breaks up the fat for smoother removal and helps tighten the skin
- Liposuction for the abdomen, love handles, thighs, mons pubis and male chest (gynecomastia)
- Can be combined with a tummy tuck, body lift or fat transfer for a fuller body contouring result
- A compression garment and lymphatic drainage massage help recovery
Additional Services
- Body: tummy tuck (including 360 tummy tuck), lower body lift and post-weight-loss surgery, Brazilian butt lift and fat transfer
- Breast: augmentation, lift, reduction and breast reconstruction
- Face: rhinoplasty, facelift and eyelid surgery
- Non-surgical: Botox, dermal fillers and PRP
